Jason Montney is a filmmaker, director, producer, cinematographer, and practical effects artist whose work combines cinematic storytelling with hands on craftsmanship. He studied filmmaking at The Actors Loft in Royal Oak, Michigan, developing his foundation in film production and visual storytelling before building his career as an independent filmmaker.
As the founder of BleakVector Studios, Jason approaches filmmaking with a strong belief that memorable films are built through atmosphere, visual storytelling, collaboration, and attention to the details that make a world feel real.
His background extends beyond the camera into practical effects, prop fabrication, costume design, and character creation. That experience gives Jason a unique perspective as a filmmaker, allowing him to think not only about how a scene will be photographed, but how its environments, objects, lighting, effects, and performances work together to tell the story.
Jason made his directorial debut with Living Nightmares, an independent production that allowed him to bring together directing, visual storytelling, and practical effects. His work behind the camera continues to evolve through BleakVector Studios, with a focus on creating distinctive independent films and cinematic productions that embrace bold imagery, practical craftsmanship, and story driven filmmaking.
His years of prop fabrication and costume work have also earned recognition within the creative community, including award winning builds. That foundation remains an important part of his filmmaking philosophy: whenever possible, create something tangible, give it history, and let the details contribute to the world on screen.
Through the BleakVector Studios YouTube channel, Jason takes audiences behind the camera to explore the filmmaking process. The channel features production breakdowns, behind the scenes content, cinematography techniques, filmmaking equipment and gear reviews, practical effects, production workflows, and real world experiences from independent film sets.
BleakVector Studios is ultimately built around a simple philosophy: technology should expand what filmmakers can create without replacing the craftsmanship, collaboration, and imagination at the heart of filmmaking.
